Square Stitch

  1. Materials:
    1. Small beading needle, size 12 or greater. (The larger the size, the smaller the needle head.)
    2. Nymo Thread D - best for seed beading at size 10 or 11.
    3. Size 10 beads, or size 8 if you think you're short on patience.
    4. Tea, Wine, Beer, RootBeer - favorite relaxing beverage.
  2. Let the image below sink in. Note how the thread circles through 2 rows of beads ... throughout the whole piece!

    Square Stitch

      Wave your mouse over the image above to view it rotate 90 degrees (requires that java is turned on in your browser) this will give you another view of the stitch image...I find I am always turning books sideways so I can better understand the intricacies of a pattern. There is no need to click on the image just position your mouse over the image, to go back to the original view move your mouse off of the image.

  3. Visualize these words:
    1. (a) String 10 BEADS, knowing the last 2 BEADS start the next row;
    2. (b) bring the needle BACK THROUGH the 2ND LAST BEAD in ROW 1 (the 6th bead strung);
    3. (c) bring the needle OUT the 10TH BEAD (2nd bead of the new row);
    4. (d) visualize the circle you just made with the thread inside the beads.
    5. (e) String new BEAD;
    6. (f) bring the needle BACK THROUGH the 3RD LAST BEAD in ROW 1 (the 5th bead strung);
    7. (g) bring the needle OUT the NEW BEAD;
    8. (h) repeat steps (e) to (g) to the end of this row.
    9. (i) String 2 BEADS;
    10. (j) repeat steps (b) to (j) until desired length is achieved. (6-7" makes a good bracelet)
